Season 1 Episode Summaries

Episode 1 and 2: “Secret Truths”
Air Date: November 4, 2005

When Paula Carlin accepts a new job in Los Angeles, the entire family relocates from Ohio to California. They find themselves unprepared for the fast paced environment in the city. Spencer Carlin, 16, never felt like a small town America girl and she starts questioning everything when they move. Spencer quickly makes friends with Ashley, a girl who is not into labels like gay or straight. Glen Carlin is a seventeen-year-old star basket ball player and has always been popular with the girls. Clay Carlin is the adoptive son of Paula and her husband. Clay Carlin, 17, is smart, sarcastic, and African American. Growing up in an all white family means that when he moves to LA its a little difficult to pass the “being black” test. He wants to forge his own identity. The theme song is I Don’t Want to Know by The Donnas.

Episode 3: “Friends, Lovers, Brothers, and Others”
Air Date: November 11, 2005

Ashley is shocked when her estranged rock-star father, Raife Davies (Guest Star C.C. Deville) plans to come to town to see her play at a local club. Spencer and Aiden are there to support her, but Spencer has a little too much to drink and ends up with Aiden. Ashely is jealous of them and a love-triangle quickly forms. Ashley feels betrayed by her friends and ends up sharing a moment with her father. Glen and Madison are getting hot and heavy. Meanwhile, Clay and Sean hit a rough spot in their newly formed friendship.

Episode 4: “Put Out or Get Out”
Air Date: November 18, 2005

Spencer starts hanging out with her new friend, Kelly, but she doesn’t know that Kelly wants to be more than just friends. Ashley tries to warn Spencer of Kelly’s agenda, but Spencer thinks that Ashley is just being jealous. Meanwhile, Ashley has dinner with Spencer’s family and tries to stir up some trouble at the dinner table. Aiden and Glen find themselves stranded after a game without a ride.

Episode 5: “First Time”
Original Air Date: December 2, 2005

Ashley starts making a documentary for a local film festival that deals with people’s first time. When people finds out that Clay is a virgin it seems like everyone has their own advice. Madison and Sherry try to set up up Ashley and rumors spread around the school like wild-fire. Ashley has her revenge on the cheer-divas.

Episode 6: “Girl’s Guide to Dating”
Original Air Date: December 9, 2005

Spencer and Ashley ditch school and go to the beach together. They spend the day at the beach and enjoy the sand, sun, and surf. Back on campus the police suspect that a weapon is on campus and put the school on lock down. Glen, Clay, Sean, Aiden, and Madison are forced to spend time together. When Arthur visits Paula at work, he discovers that her new boss is actually an old flame.

Episode 7: “Friends with Benefits”
Original Air Date: December 16, 2005

Spencer and Ashley start a competition for Aiden’s affection which starts to get out of hand. Sean and Clay have a bad night on their way home from the movies. Two dead bodies come into the hospital and Paula and Arthur must deal with the harsh realities of living in LA.

Episode 8: “Under my Skin”
Original Air Date: January 13, 2006

Ashley makes friends with a new girl named Josie, but Spencer does not approve of her. Ashley ignores Spencer’s instincts and believes that Spencer is being snobby. At school Clay turns in paper and gets a “C” and he has a identity crisis. Glen and Aiden have a poker game and almost loose their shirts to Arthur

Episode 9: “Shake,Rattle, & Roll”
Original Air Date: January 20, 2006

Madison and Ashley clash in the girl’s locker room. Madison finds Ashely’s phone on the floor and uses it against her. A basketball scout from a major university is interested in recruiting Glen and uses any means necessary to persuade him.  The Carlin family experience their first California earthquake which shakes the foundation of their relationships.

Episode 10: “Say It Ain’t So, Spencer”
Original Air Date: January 27, 2006

Spencer tests the waters again with Aiden and goes out on a date with him. Ashley feels as if she lost Spencer and spirals out of control, hooks up with an ex-girlfriend and experiments with danger. Clay keeps hitting road blocks as he tries to find his birth mother and starts to feel like he has no real family and no connection with his own heritage. At home, Arthur and Paula got to counseling and try to work through their evolving problems.

Episode 11: “What’s Just Happened?”
Original Air Date: February 3, 2006

After Spencer nurses Ashley through a rough night, the two girls are closer than ever. Spencer gets into an argument with her mother over Ashley, which pushes Spencer further away from her family. Meanwhile Clay borrows Sean’s car and heads to Nevada. Glen is on an emotional roller coaster of his own after he gets great news from a college recruiter, followed by an event that could change his life forever. This episode features guest star Tempesst Bledsoe.
